INFORMATION AND GUIDELINE FOR NATIONAL IDENTITY (NID) CARD APPLICATION

Before applying, please read all instructions and application guideline thoroughly.


Who can Apply?


  • The applicant must be above 18 years Bangladeshi national living in North East & North West England: Northumberland, Durham, Tyne and Wear, Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Humberside, Derbyshire, North Wales: Clwyd, Gwynedd, Isle of Man and Scotland.
  • The applicant must have a valid Bangladesh passport.
  • The applicant must have a 17digit Bangladesh Birth Certificate (all data of passport and birth certificate must be same).
  • Those who already have NID or applied for NID in Bangladesh will not be qualified to apply in the Assistant High Commission.
  • No correction application is received at this moment.
  • Mandatory prior online appointment: Please note that prior appointment for biometric enrolment at Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, Manchester is mandatory. An applicant must secure a slot for biometric enrolment by Clicking here.
  • No application without confirmed online appointment will be accepted.

NID Application Process


  • Step 1: Applicants must lodge their application online. Please apply online at https://services.nidw.gov.bd/nid-pub or Click here
  • Step 2: Appointment Booking: Applicant must make an appointment before visiting the Assistant High Commission. Click here to book an appointment.
  • Step 3: Biometric Enrolment: Applicant is required to appear in person on the date and time of appointment at the High Commission to submit fingerprint, Iris scan, photograph and signature.
  • Step 4: Ready and Collection: Once the application is completed the applicant will be handed over an enrolment slip which will be required during the collection of smart NID card. The applicant will receive an SMS on his/her UK mobile number once the NID card is ready. Then the applicant can download the NID card from the website and use it. The Assistant High Commission will be able to deliver the smart card once it is received from the NID Wing, Election Commission Secretariat, Bangladesh.


Required Documents


Following documents must be submitted to the High Commission-


1. Printed copy of online filled up and submitted application [form 2 (KA)]

2. Special information form (if applicable). Additionally, if the applicants are from the Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar,Rangamati or Bandarban district, please fill up the special information form. Click here for the form

3. Valid Bangladeshi passport (original+photocopy)

4. 17 digit Bangladeshi Birth Certificate (original+photocopy) with online verified copy. Click here for online BRC verification.  

5. Applicant must provide details of one representative who has an NID and lives in Bangladesh. The representative will be enquired of the applicant by the competent Filed Officer. 

6. A recent passport size photo (attach photo with glue on the application form)


Additionally, if the applicants are from the Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati or Bandarban District, please fill up the Special Information Form.

Following documents can be asked from the applicants by the concerned Upazila Election Office in Bangladesh to complete the verification process-


1. Academic certificate (SSC/Equivalent Certificate/JSC/PSC)

2. Parents' NID (Death certificate where applicable)

3. Bangladeshi driving license, TIN (if applicable)

4. Marriage certificate and Spouse's NID (if applicable)

5. Nationality certificate (from Bangladeshi Councillor/Chairman/Mayor/CEO)

6. A copy of Bangladeshi Utility Bill


Other General Instructions


  • Only new NID applicants can apply; existing NID holders will not be able to correct their NID from the Assistant High Commission.
  • The applicant needs both Bangla and English font to fill up the application form.
  • After submission of application to the Assistant High Commission, there will be a verification process by the concerned Upazila Election Office in Bangladesh.
  • Providing false information is a punishable offence.


Processing time


Processing time for NID card may vary due to thorough verification procedures implemented by the concerned Upazila Election Office. These checks are carried out to confirm the authenticity of the information provided during the application process.
